Catherine L. Baker

Catherine L. Baker, age 91 of 31st Street, South Bend died at 2:45 P. M. Friday, May 23 in her home. Mrs. Baker retired in 1975 from Sears Roebuck and Company. She worked in jewelry and cosmetics and loved to be around people. After Sears she worked at the Hobby Shop at Scottsdale Mall where she became manager at age 75. She also worked for the Miniature Shop on Chippewa St., South Bend.

 

Mrs. Baker war born March 10, 1912, in Bourbon, Ind., to the late Charles and Mary (Dillingham) McCollough and has lived in her present home since 1941 coming from Mishawaka.

 

She married on Nov. 24, 1932, in LaPaz, Ind., to Cecil N. Baker, who preceded her in death on May 19, 1971. Catherine is survived by her daughter, Janette (Ted) Stanton of Elkhart, Ind.; three sons, Leroy C. (Sharon) Baker of LaGrange, Ind., Larry N. (Carol) Baker of Batavia, Ill., and Dale M. (Patricia) Baker of Mishawaka, Ind. Also surviving are ten grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandsons; a sister-in-law, Anne McCollough of Lapaz, Ind.; and a brother-in-law, Kenneth Baker of College Park, Maryland. Six sisters and two brothers preceded in death.

 

Services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 28, 2003, at the Palmer Funeral Home, 2528 Mishawaka Ave., South Bend. Burial will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday, at the funeral home. Catherine graduated from Plymouth High School in 1930 and then received her Stenography Degree from the Michiana College of Commerce in 1932. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of St. Joseph County.
