MISHAWAKA - Vera A. Balcom, 84, of 56362 Currant Road, Mishawaka, died at 3:08 a.m. Friday, in her residence. Vera was born Aug. 22, 1912, in Cutter, Ark., to John and Emma Russell, who preceded her in death.

Vera married James E. Balcom in Truman, Ark., on Jan. 21, 1933. He survives with a daughter, Helen E. Mendenhall of Mishawaka, and a son, Donald W. of Lina, Wis. She also has two grandchildren, Scott Balcom of Decatur, Ind., and Gina Langston of Dallas, Texas; three great-grandchildren, Tiffany, Mary and Tyler Balcom, all of Decatur, Ind.; two sisters, Geneva Turner and Vivian Fredericks, both of Marion, Ind.; and four brothers, Roby D. Russell and Paul Russell, both of Elkhart, Ind., Jim Russell of Union, Mich., and W.G. Russell of Springdale, Ark. Vera was a member of United Pentecostal Church of South Bend.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Bubb Funeral Chapel North 3910 N. Main St., where funeral services will be conducted by Rev. Kenneth Mendenhall at 10 a.m. Monday. Burial will follow in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola.
