Cordelia Balentine

Cordelia Balentine, 88, of West 13th Street, Mishawaka, passed away at 2 a.m. Saturday in Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center, Mishawaka, after an illness. Cordelia was born in Florence, Ala. on July 28, 1916. She was a member of the Current Road Church of Christ, and attended the Willowdale Avenue Church of Christ, Elkhart.

 

As Cordelia Parrish, she married Howard R. Balentine in Florence, Ala. on Dec. 22, 1934; they were married seventy years, he survives, along with one son, Elvis Balentine of South Bend; and two daughters, Carolyn (Paul) Fielder of Mishawaka and Shirley (John) South of Florence, Ala.; 13 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren. She is also survived by four brothers, Barney W. and Evan Parrish, both of Mishawaka, Walter Parish of Michigan and Bill N. Parrish of Lawrenceburg, Tenn.; and two sisters, Letha Brewer and Lillie Mae Kelley, both of Florence, Ala. Cordelia was preceded in death by her parents, one son, Bulon Balentine; three grandchildren; three brothers; and two sisters.

 

Cordelia worked for Co-op for 65 years in South Bend, she was an avid gardener, and loved to tend her flowers. She loved to have her children and grandchildren visit her.

 

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, in Bubb Funeral Chapel North, 3910 N. Main St., Mishawaka, where funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, with Rev. Ray Caudill officiating. Burial will be at Fairview Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Mental Health Association.
