Howard Ray Balentine

Howard Ray Balentine, 94, of 13th Street, Mishawaka, IN, passed away at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 11, 2005, in his residence. Howard was born on September 14, 1910, in Florence, AL, to Phillip and Molly (Wallace) Balentine.

 

On December 22, 1934, in Florence, AL, Howard married Cordelia Parrish. Cordelia preceded Howard on March 12, 2005, after 70 years of marriage. Howard is survived by one son, Elvis (Joanne) of South Bend, IN; two daughters, Carolyn (Paul) Fielder of Mishawaka, IN, and Shirley (John) South of Florence, AL; 13 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren. Howard was preceded in death by one son, Burlon Balentine; one sister, Norma Cooper; two brothers, Douglas Balentine and Clyde Cooper; and three grandchildren. Howard retired from F.W. Means in 1973 after 21 years of service.

 

Howard was a member of Current Road Church of Christ and most recently attended Willowdale Church of Christ in Elkhart, IN, and Howard volunteered for KO-OP 69 for 20 years. Howard always enjoyed getting back to his roots along the Tennessee River where he liked to fish, his lifelong hobby. He was a devoted husband and father and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. Dad was an active church member, a good neighbor and an asset to the community. He was quick to lend a helping hand to the sick and those in need. He will be missed by all.

 

Family and friends may call on Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. in the Bubb Funeral Chapel North, 3910 N. Main Street, where funeral services will take place at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, May 14, 2005, with Ray Caudill officiating the services, with burial to follow at Fairview Cemetery, Mishawaka.
