South Bend Tribune 12/28/2001

Mrs. Mary Catherine Ball, 69, peacefully submitted to the call of the God of Israel on Christmas Day, Tuesday, Dec. 25, in her residence on South Phillipa Street, South Bend, Ind. She was born on Dec. 22, 1932, in Tupelo, Miss., to Ms. Katherine Smith and the late Mr. General Morrison. In 1954 Mary moved from Mt. Clemens, Mich., to South Bend where she met Raymond Ball.

On Aug. 11, 1970, they were united in holy matrimony in St. Joseph, Mich. She loved the God of Israel and was a member of the Spiritual Israel Church and Its Army where she served for over 28 years on the church's mother's board and eight years as its president. Mary was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend, who touched many through her love and unending kindness. She always had time to share and offered a helping hand to anyone in need.

Mrs. Ball has left to treasure her memory two daughters, Jannetha Phillips of Pittsburgh, Pa., and Kathy (Gerald) Ball; a son, Tarzan (Stephanie) Ball, both of South Bend; five grandchildren; her mother, Katherine Smith of South Bend; four sisters, Ruth Walker, Minnie Taylor, Shirley Bonds and Delphine Bonds; a very close cousin, Savannah Richmond; goddaughter, Antonette Richmond; godsons, Lamar Taylor and James Blakes, and Brady Clark Jr.; godsisters, Brenda Doxie and Delores Weyman; and three very dear friends, Velma Holiday, Sara Tipton and Bonnie Brooks, all of South Bend; along with other relatives and friends. Preceding her in death was her husband, Raymond, who passed away in 1993; and her father, General Morrison, who passed away in 1999.

Services will be held at noon Saturday at Spiritual Israel and Its Army, where friends may call one hour before the service. Burial will follow at Highland Cemetery. Arrangements have been entrusted to Alford's Mortuary .
