John S. Balogh

Feb. 8, 1919 - May 10, 1999

John S. ''Feets'' Balogh, 80, formerly of Mayflower Road, passed away at 9:30 a.m. on Monday, May 10, in Healthwin Hospital. Mr. Balogh attended Washington High School, was the former owner of Feets Liquor Store, and had also been employed by Drewery's Ltd., where he was the union president. He was born on Feb. 8, 1919, in South Bend, Ind., to John and Mary Balogh, who both preceded him in death. John was preceded in death by a sister, Mary E. Mamula, and by a brother, Steve J. Balogh.

 

On Aug. 9, 1941, in South Bend, he married Anna E. Konter, who also preceded him in death on May 7, 1998. Mr. Balogh was the 1940 Golden Gloves Champion, a member of the St. Anthony's Sick Benefit Society, Calvert Rod and Gun Club, Loyal Order of Moose #58, and the Bendix softball all-star team. He was an avid Notre Dame fan, and loved to fish.

 

He is survived by a daughter, Charlotte (Thomas) Makowski of South Bend; a son, Jeffrey M. (Nancy) Balogh of Indianapolis, Ind.; four grandchildren, Ryan C. Balogh, Stephanie Kocsis, Cynthia Branciforte and Christopher Makowski; two great-grandchildren, Camille Kocsis and Zachary Branciforte; and by a sister, Rose Grams of South Bend.

 

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Friday, May 14, in Our Lady of Hungary Catholic Church. Entombment will follow in Riverview Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday in the Zahoran Funeral Home, 1826 S. Kemble Avenue, where a Rosary will be said at 3 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 425 N. Michigan St., Suite 308, South Bend, IN 46601.
