Sylvester ''Sally'' J. Banacki, 71, of Bowman Street, South Bend, passed away at 4:53 p.m. Sunday, at Ironwood Health and Rehabilitation Center, after a brief illness.
He was born in South Bend on Nov. 28, 1924. On Aug. 14, 1945, he married Donnabelle Wiley, who survives.
Also surviving are five daughters, Sharon K. Eberhard of Mishawaka, Ind., Donna A. Bessler of North Liberty, Ind.; Lois Banacki of Osceola, Ind.; Carol S. Ochs of Plymouth, Ind.; and Debra J. Parmlee of South Bend; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
A granddaughter preceded him in death.
Mr. Banacki retired from the South Bend Street Department in 1990. He was a veteran of World War II.
There will be no visitation. Cremation will take place, with burial in St. Joseph Cemetery. Guisinger Colonial Chapel Funeral Home, Inc. is in charge of arrangements.
