SOUTH BEND - Helen J. Banaszak, 75, of St. Paul's Retirement Community, formerly of Liberty Street, died Sunday morning in the nursing home. Mrs. Banaszak was born Nov. 24, 1918, in South Bend and was a lifelong area resident.
On Aug. 18, 1945, in South Bend, as Helen J. Janowski, she married Vincent F. Banaszak. He died July 3, 1990. She is survived by a daughter, Patricia Kowalski of South Bend; a son, Ronald of New Carlisle; two grandchildren; and two sisters, Phyllis Markiewicz and Pauline Cybulski, both of South Bend. She was a member of the Altar & Rosary Society of St. Adalbert's Catholic Church.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in the church. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 9 p.m. Wednesday in St. Joseph Funeral Home, where a parish rosary will be said at 7:30 p.m.
