John P. Banaszak

SOUTH BEND — John P. Banaszak, 66, of US #31 South, South Bend, passed away at 9:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 15, in Memorial Hospital after an extended illness. Mr. Banaszak was born on March 16, 1935, in South Bend and resided his lifetime in the Michiana area.

 

On May 1, 1981, in South Bend he married Ruth B. Creager, who survivies along with a daughter; Jodene Nichols of Homossa, Fla.; three brothers, Norbert A., Raymond M. and Fred E. Banaszak, all of South Bend. Several grandchildren and several great-grandchildren also survive. Mr. Banaszak was preceded in death by two sons, Joseph Banaszak in 1982 and Michael Banaszak in 2001; also a twin brother, Joey Banaszak and a brother, Robert Banaszak; and by two sisters, Jan Wooten and Regina Banaszak.

 

Mr. Banaszak retired in 1993 from Ideal Consolidated as a supervisor in the Sheet Metal Works. He was also a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War. John was a member of St. Jude Catholic church and a member of local #20 Sheetmetal Workers Union.

 

There will be no visitation hours, cremation will take place. A graveside memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, September 21, at Southlawn Cemetery. The family request that all memorial contributions be made to the following; Make a Wish Foundation, St. Joseph County Cancer Society, and the St. Joseph County Heart Association. The HANLEY & Sons "Southwest Chapel" Funeral Home handled arrangements and services and extend deepest sympathy and heartfelt prayers to the Banaszak family.
