Mary Banfi

Mary Banfi, 85, of Miami Street, South Bend, Ind., died at 9:30 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 24, in the Ironwood Health and Rehabilitation Center. Mary was born on Aug. 6, 1914, in Niles, Mich., to Stephen and Mary (Szabo) Juhasz, who both preceded her in death.

 

On Oct. 19, 1936, Mary married Edward O. Banfi, who preceded her in death on Feb. 6, 1992.

For 45 years Mary and her husband owned several businesses on Miami Street. Mary is survived by four daughters, Nancy Stroup of Mishawaka, Ind., Sue Nyari of South Bend, Becky Banfi of Dallas, Texas, and Linda Ratkay of Niles; a son, Ed Banfi of South Bend; and by 11 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by a sister, Elsie Neidlinger of Berrien Springs, Mich.; and by two brothers, Steve Juhasz of Niles and Andy Juhasz of California.

 

There will be no visitation, and a memorial service will be held at a later date. The family asks that donations in memory of Mary Banfi be made to Pet Refuge, Inc., 2300 West 6th Street, Mishawaka, IN 46544. The Guisinger Colonial Chapel Funeral Home, 3718 S. Michigan Street, South Bend, is handling arrangements.
