NORTH LIBERTY - Ruby M. (Medlin) Banks, 91, of North Liberty, IN passed away at 5:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 9, 2010 in Miller's Merry Manor, Wakarusa, IN. She was born on May 6, 1919 in Giles County, TN to the late English and Maggie (Mangram) Carpenter. On April 10, 1936, she married Irving Medlin, who preceded her in death in 1998. She married Cecil Banks on April 15, 1962, and he preceded her in death in 1975. Mrs. Banks is survived by her daughter-in-law, Karen Medlin of North Liberty, IN; son, James Medlin of South Bend, IN; eight grandchildren, Kelly (Rod) McBride, Wendy (John) Fredericks, Carolee (Jim) Shoue, James Medlin, Mitzi Medlin, Stephanie Medlin, Randy (Sarah) Medlin and Amy (Steve) Dermody; thirteen great grandchildren and one great great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her son, Joseph Medlin on March 16, 2007 and great granddaughter, Marlee Jo McBride. Mrs. Banks had lived in the area since 1949. She retired as a supervisor in 1985 after twenty five years of service at Memorial Health Systems. She was a member of North Liberty Church of the Brethren and participated in the women's fellowship. She loved to sew, especially making quilts for her grandchildren. Mrs. Banks always had many beautiful flowers in her garden and many people spoke of their beauty. She loved garage sales, always finding the bargains. Mrs. Banks was loved very much and will be greatly missed by her family. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, June 11, 2010 in the North Liberty Church of the Brethren, 201 E. Market St., North Liberty. Rev. Carol Pfeiffer will officiate. Burial will follow in Fair Cemetery, North Liberty. Friends may visit with the family from 10:00-11:00 a.m. Friday in the church. Palmer Funeral Home-Lakeville is handling the arrangements. Contributions in memory of Ruby M. Banks may be offered to the Ronald McDonald Room, Memorial Hospital, 615 N. Michigan Street, South Bend, IN 46601.
