M. Sue Barany, 67, of 511 Marquette Avenue, South Bend, Ind., was taken home by loving angels on Thursday evening, Oct. 18. She was surrounded by her entire family at her residence. Sue, known as "Mimi" to her family and friends, was born on May 2, 1934, in St. Louis, Mo., to Roy and Clara Neuman Nixon.

 

On June 23, 1956, in Sacred Heart Church, Notre Dame, Sue married John M. Barany, who survives. She is also survived by five daughters, Mary (John) Nozykowski of Longmont, Colo., Gigi (Jim) Case of Loveland, Colo., Suzanne (Mike) Becsei of Niles, Mich., Maureen (Bill) Harkenrider of Longmont and Debbie (Scot) Lucas of Grand Rapids, Mich.; two sons, John (Eileen) Barany Jr. of Granger, Ind., and Tim (Tonya) Barany of Elkhart, Ind.; her mother, Clara E. Nixon of South Bend; 17 grandchildren; and by a brother, Roy Nixon of Santa Barbara, Calif.

 

Sue moved to South Bend in 1952 to attend St. Mary's College. She received her bachelor's degree in nursing and went on to serve the Notre Dame Community for 27 years as head nurse at Holy Cross House on the Notre Dame campus.

 

A memorial M ass will be at 2 p.m. Monday in the Basilica of the Sacred Heart, with Father John Croston, C.S.C., Rev. Tom Stella, C.S.C., and Rev. William Melody, C.S.C., officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to services in the Basilica. Interment will be at Cedar Grove Cemetery, Notre Dame, at a later date. Memorials may be made to Hospice of St. Joseph County, 111 Sunnybrook Court, South Bend. IN. The Hickey Funeral Home, 17131 Cleveland Road, 289-1000, is handling arrangements.
