Velma H. Barson

Velma H. Barson, 81, of Holy Cross Care and Rehabilitation Center, formerly of 2014 S. Kendall Street, passed away at 4 a.m. on Sunday, Feb. 9, in the nursing home. Mrs. Barson was born on May 25, 1915, in South Bend, Ind., and was a lifelong area resident.

 

On April 16, 1932, in South Bend, as Velma H. Wujcikowski, she married Louis J. Barson, who preceded her in death on June 1, 1990. She is survived by a daughter, Patricia A. Baker of Mishawaka; a son, Raymond M. Barson, Sr., of South Bend; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two sisters, Cecelia Hnilica of Flint, Mich., and Agnes Popa of Allen Park, Mich.; and two brothers, Ed Wujcikowski of Vassar, Mich., and Stanley Wujcikowski of Port Charlotte, Fla. Mrs. Barson was a member of Our Lady of Hungary Church and of St. Anne's Society.

 

Services will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 12, in Our Lady of Hungary Church, Rev. Thaddeus Kwak officiating. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. today in the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, where a parish rosary will be recited at 3 p.m.
