Dock Leander Bass, 88, of 301 Camden St., died at 7:40 p.m. Wednesday in the home of his daughter, Mrs. Josephine Lester, 312 S. Kentucky St., with whom he had been staying since he became seriously ill a few days ago. He had been failing health for many years. A former carpenter, he was born on Dec. 1, 1876, in Monroe,La., coming to South Bend 25 years ago from Benton Harbor. On Dec. 1, 1895, in Monroe, he married Ida McClaim, who preceded him in death.
Surviving are three sons, Bonnie of Milwaukee, Robert of Battle Creek and Cornelius of Benton Harbor; three other daughters, Mrs. Rosie Smith of Arkansas and Mrs. Nettie Grimes and Mrs. Mary Leach, both of Benton Harbor; 27 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
The body is at Alford’s Mortuary, 3701 W. Jefferson Blvd.
He was a member of Saints Memorial Chapel Church of God in Christ.
