SOUTH BEND - Robert V. Batteast Jr.,
41, of East Madison Street, died at 11:42 a.m. Wednesday in
Lakeland Medical Center, Niles, of an apparent heart attack. Mr.
Batteast was employed as a general contractor. He was born July
17, 1954, in Natchez, Miss., and lived in South Bend since 1962.
On June 7, 1980, in Gary, he married Cheryl Cowans.
She survives with two daughters, Danielle Batteast of South Bend
and Aneitra Hurdle of Atlanta; two sons, Darren and Brian,
both of South Bend; one grandchild; his parents, Senola and
Robert V. Batteast Sr. of South Bend; a sister, Valerie E. Fleming
of Chicago; and two brothers, Ronald of South Bend and James of
Chicago. He was a graduate of Purdue University and a member of
the Purdue Alumni Club.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in Faith Christian Center. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery. Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday in Alford's Mortuary.
