SOUTH BEND - James G. "Jim" Bauer, 75, of South Bend, IN, passed away at 4:00 AM Tuesday, September 2, 2008, at his home after a long courageous battle with cancer. He retired from the former South Bend Community Hospital on Jefferson Boulevard, and prior to that he was sales manager at McCarthy GMC, Hill Truck Sales and Lochmondy Motors. Jim was born on January 24, 1933, in South Bend, IN, to George and Helen (Lemons) Bauer, and was a lifelong resident. On September 12, 1953, in South Bend, IN, he married Sherry Kubsch Bauer, who survives. Along with his wife, Sherry Bauer, he is survived by three daughters, Brenda (Tim) Bowlby of South Bend, Linda (Larry) Hall of Granger and Diana (Fred) Bauer of Granger; one son, Don Bauer of South Bend; four grandsons, Jeffery, Samuel and Aaron Bauer, and Michael Hall; three granddaughters, Elizabeth and Bridget Bauer, and Jessica Hall; one great-grandson, Caden Bauer; two sisters, Margie (Donald) Christianson and Phyllis Singleton, both of South Bend; one brother-in-law, Paul (Mary) Kubsch of South Bend; and many wonderful nieces and nephews. Jim was preceded in death by four sisters, Evelyn (Lloyd) Brown, Jean (Stanley) Nijak, Elizabeth (Dan) Stachowiak and Dorothy (Melvin) Kubsch; and two brothers, Jack Bauer and William (Barbara) Bauer. Jim attended Central High School, South Bend. He was a sergeant in the Korean War. He was a member of VFW Post 1167 and the South Bend Maennerchor Club.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM Friday, September 5, in Palmer Funeral Home-River Park, 2528 Mishawaka Ave., South Bend. Rev. Jeffery Largent will officiate. Graveside services and burial will follow at Highland Cemetery, South Bend. Friends may visit with the family from 4:00 to 8:00 PM today in the funeral home.
