SOUTH BEND - Michael E. Bauer, 48, of South Bend, IN,
passed away at 5:01 p.m. Monday, October 6, 2008, at Memorial
Hospital, as a result of an accident at home. He was born on
December 26, 1959, to Edward F.H. and Jacqueline R. (Wyckstandt)
Bauer in South Bend and was a lifelong resident. Mr. Bauer had
worked in the past as a floral designer for both Wygant Floral
Company and Frepan Floral Shop. He graduated from St. Joseph's
High School in 1977. He is survived by his parents, Edward F.H.
and Jacqueline Bauer of South Bend; his daughter, Shannon L.
(Peter) Batalis of Mishawaka; his son, Michael R. Bauer of
Athens, GA; three grandchildren, William, Gabby and Zachary
Batalis, all of Mishawaka; four sisters, Kathleen A. (Steven) Deatherage
of St. John, IN, Christine A. (Robert "Bo") McMillan
of South Bend, Patricia L. (David) Deatherage of Louisville, KY,
and Sandra L. (Alan) Fisher of South Bend; one brother,
Patrick Bauer of Indianapolis, IN; his significant other, Kathy Michalski
of South Bend; two nieces and eight nephews. Michael was a member
of Corpus Christi Parish. He enjoyed photography, target
shooting, gardening, and the outdoors. Michael also was a
military history enthusiast, especially of the U.S. Marine Corps.
Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. today, October 9, 2008, at Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, South Bend, where a parish Rosary will be prayed at 4:30 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, October 10, 2008, at Corpus Christi Catholic Church. Entombment will follow in Highland Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Corpus Christi Catholic Church, 2822 Corpus Christi Drive, South Bend, IN 46628.
