Sister M. Leonita CSC, 90, of Saint Mary’s Convent, Notre Dame, died at 8:35 a.m. today in the convent, after a lengthy illness. She was born Helen Bauer on Sept. 18, 1889 in Quincy, Ill., and joined the Congregation of the Sisters of the Holy Cross on June 8, 1915. She was received as a novice on Dec. 10, 1915 and professed her final vows on Dec. 10, 1917. She resided in St. Mary’s Convent since 1962. Sister Leonita was an elementary school teacher for many years, teaching in St. Joseph Grade School in South Bend as well as at other schools in Indiana, Illinois, California, Maryland, Washington DC, Virginia, New York and Texas.

 

Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Our Lady of Loretto Church with burial in Our Lady of Peace Cemetery, St. Mary’s. Friends may call until services at the St. Mary’ Convent Parlors, where a wake service will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
