SOUTH BEND -Thomas M. Bauer, 68, passed away with his family present at Memorial Hospital December 2, 2009 at 11:10 AM.

Born in South Bend, he was the son of August and Anna Bauer. They preceded him in death, along with two brothers, Jim and Jerry, and sister, Mary Anne Edmonds. On August 8, 1964, Tom married Margaret "Peggy" Neff. She survives along with their four children, Phil of Florida, Judy (Mike) King of South Bend, Andy (Kari) of Plainfield, IL and Mike (Rebecca) Bauer of South Bend; six grandchildren, Matthew, Emily and Madalyn King and Anna, August "AJ", and Katie Bauer; brother, Ed (Mako) of South Bend, three sisters-in-law, Joanne Bauer of Mishawaka, Judy Neff of OH and Carol Bauer of Granger; brother-in-law, Eugene (Jean) Edmonds of Granger; and many nieces and nephews, who referred to Tom as Uncle Ornery, or "UT".

Tom was a graduate of Saint Joseph High School and IU, Bloomington. Aside from his family, he loved his boat and golfing. He taught many of the accountants in the Michiana area. His teaching ended when he retired from South Western Michigan College in 2003. He was very proud of his children and was quite honored to have two that served in the Navy. Tom was a man of faith. He will be dearly missed by his family and many friends.

Friends may call at the McGann Hay, Granger Chapel, SR 23, from 4-8 PM on Friday. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at St. Pius X Catholic Church on Saturday at 10:00 AM, with visitation one hour prior in the church. Entombment will follow at Saint Joseph Valley Memorial Park.

Tom did not care much for flowers. Instead, the family wants donations to be made to St. Pius X, the Youth Group Mission Trip, or to the Christ Child Society. Condolences may be made at www.mcgannhay.com.
