Michael J. Bauman

SOUTH BEND - Michael J. Bauman, 88, passed away at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 5, 2008, in Memorial Hospital. He was born on September 14, 1919, in Star City, to Michael Joseph and Mary Ellen (Herrick) Bauman Sr.

 

On May 31, 1959, in South Bend, he married the former Rosemary (Quinn) Abair, who preceded him in death in 1988. Mr. Bauman is survived by two sons, Kevin Bauman of South Bend, and Jon (Dotty) Hawkins of Plymouth; three daughters, Hazel M. Scott of Tyner, Vicki (Gary) Maybee of Tyner and Roseanna (Fred) Jean of Mooresville, IN; 10 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; four sisters, Alice Pearson of Plymouth, Doris (Dean) Anders of Niles, Joan Faust of Ocala, FL and Lois (Art) Morrill of Argos; three brothers, Howard (Jeanne) Bauman of Plymouth, Lawrence Bauman of South Bend and Robert Bauman of Argos. Many nieces and nephews also survive him. A sister, Ellen Rosebaum preceded him in death.

 

Mr. Bauman retired from Allied Products Corporation as a machine repairman. He was a member of the American Legion Post #303 and former post commander of the American Legion Post #27 in Plymouth. Mr. Bauman was a distinguished U.S. Army Air Force veteran of World War II, earning a Silver Star for gallantry in battle as a bombardier in a B-26 aircraft. He was also well known at local auctions and participated in antique resale at several malls in the area.

 

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:30 a.m. Monday, March 10, 2008, in St. Matthew Cathedral, 1701 Miami St. South Bend. Rev. Michael Heintz will officiate. Burial will follow in Southlawn Cemetery, South Bend. Friends may visit with the family from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, March 9, 2008, in the Palmer Funeral Home-Guisinger Chapel, 3718 S. Michigan St. South Bend, IN where a Rosary will be said at 3:30 p.m. Contributions may be made to the American Legion Post #27, 1040 E. Jefferson St., Plymouth, IN 46563 or St. Vincent de Paul Society of St. Matthew Cathedral.
