John William Bays

SOUTH BEND - John William "Bill" Bays, 74, of
Terrace Lane, South Bend, passed away at his residence at 8 a.m.
Tuesday, December 11, 2007. He was born July 20, 1933, in South
Bend, to Charles and Emma (Stafford) Bays who both
preceded him in death.
On June 2, 1951, he married the former Joan
M. Wettergren in South Bend. She survives with three
children, Sherry Bays-Ewing of Niles, Michigan, Don
(Carla) Bays of South Bend and John (Robin) Bays Jr. of Niles,
Michigan. Also surviving are two sisters, Marjorie (Ervin) Neuerburg
of Edwardsburg, Michigan and Sharon (Randall) Jones of
Elkhart; a brother, Thomas (Diana) Bays of Granger; seven
grandchildren, Robert Tschida of South Bend, Brian Bays of
South Bend, Scott Ewing of Mishawaka, April (Brian) Sauders
of Indianapolis, Carie Ewing of South Bend, Jennifer (Tim) Gore
of South Bend and Aaron Michael Smith of Niles, Michigan;
three great-grandchildren, Scottie Ewing, Tanner Gore and Conner
Gore.
Mr. Bays worked at Bendix Corporation in
production for many years, he was a committeeman for the UAW
Union Local #9 and retired as a Supervisor in 1989. He was a
member of the Clay Township and Civic Democratic Club of South
Bend and the Maennerchor Club of South Bend. John enjoyed fishing
and his motorcycle.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday
in Bubb Funeral Chapel North, 3910 North Main St. Mishawaka,
where friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m.
Friday. Burial will follow the services Saturday at St. Joseph
Valley Memorial Park. The family has requested that memorial
contributions be made to Hospice of St. Joseph County.
