Philip C. Beach

SOUTH BEND - Philip C. Beach, 78, of Arch Avenue, died at 1 a.m. Saturday in his home after an illness. Mr. Beach was the former owner of Phil's Tavern, New Carlisle, and retired from the City of South Bend Engineering Department. He was born Feb. 25, 1916, in Grovertown, living here most of his lifetime, since coming from Grovertown.

 

On May 22, 1948, in Michigan City, he married Juanita Slake. She survives with a daughter, Janette Hooten of Colorado Springs, Colo.; two sons, Edmund J. and Philip H., both of South Bend; and four grandchildren. He was a volunteer and coach for local American Legion baseball and American Softball Association. He was a member of South Bend Maennerchor, Loyal Order of Moose and Elks Lodge. He was an army veteran of World War II.

 

Memorial services will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday in Forest G. Hay Funeral Home, 1201 S. Michigan St. Cremation will take place. There will be no visitation. Memoral contributions may be made to Center for the Homeless or Family and Children's Center, Mishawaka.
