Eugene Field Beatty

Eugene Field "Bud" Beatty, 80, of Haven Hill Lane, Granger, Ind., passed away peacefully at home after a courageous fight against cancer. Bud was born and raised in South Bend, the only child of David Beatty and Ethel Beatty Overlease who both preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by a son, D. Patrick Beatty; a daughter, Julie Ames; and a grandson, Sean Beatty.

 

He is survived by his wife, Anita Ames Beatty, whom he married in 1964; four sons, R. Michael Beatty, C. Thomas Beatty, Ted H. (Becky) Ames, and Richard J. (Jane) Ames; eight grandchildren, Adam (Lendy) Beatty, Kim (Jeff) Pavek, Jessica (Mark) Kubow, Samantha Haxton, Sara Ames, Tahnee Beatty, Teddy Ames, and Kali Beatty; seven great-grandchildren; step-grandsons, Bob and Joe Frickson; and five step-great-grandchildren.

 

Bud graduated from Central High School in 1943 and married Janet Moulton in 1944. He was with the Army Air Corps from 1943 until 1945 and then attended Purdue University, where he majored in mechanical engineering. He worked at the Bendix Corporation for many years, where he was awarded several patents for air brake design. He ended his career as national manager of sales engineering for Royal Industries of Los Angeles. During his 41-year marriage with Anita they shared a love of travel, music, birds, flowers and gardening. Bud was also an avid fisherman and was happiest with a fishing pole in his hands. He was a proud member and treasurer of the Michiana Steelheaders.

 

Funeral services will be held at 3.00 p.m. Sunday, October 16, in the Welsheimer Family Funeral Home, 521 N. William St. with Mr. Steve Nani of the Center for Hospice and Palliative Care officiating. Burial will follow at Highland Cemetery. Friends may call from 1:00 p.m. until the time of service at 3:00 p.m. in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Michiana Steelheaders, AIDS Ministries/AIDS Assist or to the Center for Hospice and Palliative Care.
