Mrs. Carthel (Gertrude) Benninghoff

November 1, 1907 – June 7, 1981

 

Mrs. Gertrude B. Benninghoff, 73, of 530 E Victoria, died at 5:44pm Sunday in Memorial Hospital after an unexpected illness.  She retired from Robertson’s Department Store in 1979.  She was born on November 1, 1907, in Goddard KS, and had lived in South Bend for 56 years after coming from Hamlet IN.  On July 25, 1925, in St Joseph MI, she married Carthel E. Benninghoff, who survives.  Also surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Richard (Lila) Grant and Mrs. Robert (Dirie) Fish, both of South Bend; tow sons, Walter L. and Eugene R., both of South Bend; 17 grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Dorothy A. Schieman of Kingsford Heights; and a brother, Charles I. Johnson of Hamlet.

 

Services will be at 11am Wednesday in the Milburn Blvd. Church of Christ.  Rev. Harold Akers, elder, will officiate.  Entombment will be in Riverview Mausoleum.  Friends may call from 7 to 9pm today and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9pm Tuesday in the Guisinger Colonial Chapel.  She was a member of the church.
