Carol A. Benson

Carol A. "Katie" Benson, 69, of East Monroe Street in South Bend, Ind., passed away of natural causes on Tuesday, March 5, in the Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center. Mrs. Benson was born Jan. 2, 1933, to Theodore and Helen (Stikelather) Sherk in Mishawaka, Ind.

 

On Aug. 22, 1954, the former Ms. Sherk married Earl J. Benson. He preceded her in death, passing away in 1996. Mrs. Benson was also preceded in death by her sons, Bruce Benson and Earl J. Benson Jr. She is survived by five sons, Daniel Benson and his wife, Dawn of Mishawaka, Charles Benson of Michigan City, Ind., Victor Benson and his wife, Pam of Osceola, Ind., Kenneth Warren and his wife, Jeanie of Wheatley, Mich., and David Brown of Palm Springs, Calif.; a daughter, Cassandra Sample and her husband, Robert of Osceola; a brother, William McKeon and his wife, Mary of Mishawaka; and four sisters, Alice Benson and her husband, Michael, Rita Williams and Marie Rankin, all residing in Mishawaka, and Delores Hamilton and her husband, Richard of Osceola; and by 22 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

 

There will be no visitation for Mrs. Benson, and services will be private. The Chapel Hill Funeral Home is handling arrangements. Mrs. Benson was employed for many years in laundry services at the Countryside Nursing Home in Mishawaka, retiring in 1988. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
