Robert L. Benson

June 22, 1930 - Oct. 31, 1999

On October 31, 1999, the gates of heaven opened and welcomed the faithful servant, Robert Lee Benson, to be reunited with his Creator. On June 22, 1930, in Canadian, Okla., Robert was born to the union of Fred Thomas and Ora Almeda Benson. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Kenneth; and by a sister, Bonnie Faye. He is survived by two brothers, J.B. Benson of McAlester, Okla., and Fred Thomas Benson of Richardson, Texas; and four sisters, Lela Yates, Millie Preston, Gladys Davenport and Norma Jean Coop, all of McAlester; along with a host of nieces and nephews.

 

On June 4, 1950, in Indianola, Okla., he married Dorothy Gail Barlow, who survives him. To that union were born four children, Randall L., Stephen J. and Danny J., all of Mishawaka, Ind., and Roberta Gail Thompson of Fordsville, Ky., who survive him. He also had 13 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and an extended family too numerous to mention.

 

Robert retired from AMG Corporation in 1978. He was also a deacon at Victory Chapel General Baptist Church and at Southside General Baptist Church. He was a member of Southside Baptist Church at the time of his death.

 

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today, Nov. 2, at the Bubb Funeral Chapel, with the funeral being held at Southside General Baptist Church at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 3. Pastor Jeff Little will be presiding over the memorial service. Memorial contributions may be made to your local church.
