Edward L. Bergan, 66, of South Bend, passed away after an illness on Wednesday, November 30, 2005, in Memorial Hospital. He was born on October 22, 1939, in South Bend, to Edward L. Sr. and Zelma (Salsbury) Bergan, both of whom have preceded him in death.

 

On September 1, 1984, in South Bend, he married Shirley Molnar, who survives along with two daughters, Shelly Greene and Beth Ann Bergan, both of Mission Viejo, California; two sons, William J. Shepard of Chicago and Jeffrey Bergan of Mission Viejo, California; seven grandchildren; a sister, Helen Bayman of Indiana; and a brother, James P. (Linda) Bergan of Vandalia, Michigan. Edward was a member of the South Bend Elks Lodge, the Loyal Order of the Moose in Elkhart, The South Bend Maennerchor, University Club of Notre Dame and the Ancient Order of Hibernians. In 1957 he graduated from South Bend Central High School. He had also been the owner and operator of Frontier Adjusters.

 

Family and friends may call today, December 1, 2005, from 5 PM to 8 PM in ST. JOSEPH FUNERAL HOME, 1827 East Ireland Road, South Bend, where a Rosary will be prayed at 7 PM. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St. Joseph Church, 226 North Hill Street, South Bend, at 10 AM on Friday, December 2, 2005. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, South Bend. Those wishing to make memorial contributions may do so at the request of the family to The American Heart Association or to the American Cancer Society.
