Wilfred A. Berger

SOUTH BEND — Wilfred Allen Berger, 67, of Roosevelt Road, died at 12:151a.m today in his home after an illness. Mr. Berger retired from AM General Corp. as director of quality assurance. He was born Sept. 2, 1925, in Hammond and lived in South Bend for 40 years, coming from Hammond. On April 4, 1952, in Chicago, he married Virginia J. Cramer. She died July 9, 1974. On June 11, 1976, in South Bend, he married Katherine Gravfeel.  She survives with six daughters, Kristine Wynn of Dayton, Ohio, Gail Papczynski  of Lakeville, Denise VanAvernaete of Hudson,  Ohio, Sue  Boocher  of South Bend, Judie Swoverland of Indianapolis, and Deborah Graveel of Fort Wayne; three sons, Michael A. Berger of Elkhart, and Andrew J. Berger and Michael R Graveel, both of South Bend;  10 grandchildren; and two sisters, Shirley Berger of Florida and Elsie Hammond of Arkansas:  A daughter preceded him in death. He was a member of American Society of Quality Control and St. Jude's Catholic Church. He was a veteran of World War II.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday in the church. Burial will be in Southlawn Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday in Guisinger Colonial Chapel Funeral Home, where a parish rosary will be said at 3:30 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of St. Joseph County Inc.
