Raymond L. Bergland, 87, of 65469 State Road 23, North Liberty, Ind., passed away after a short illness at 5 a.m. Tuesday, April 6, in his residence. He formerly owned and operated the Home Dairy in North Liberty for many years. He was born Jan. 12, 1917, in Granger, Ind., and had lived in North Liberty since 1940.

 

He was married to Georgia P. Heim on Dec. 28, 1940, in North Liberty. She survives. He is also survived by two daughters, Merita (Chris) Irwin of Walkerton, Ind., and Sharon (Brian) Liggett of South Bend; a son, Kent (Tina) of Mishawaka; 10 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; and by a sister, Dorothy (Clyde) Reynolds of West Boylston, Mass. He was preceded in death by a sister, Louise Phillipson; a brother, Paul; and by a grandchild, Tyler Bergland.

 

Mr. Bergland was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving his country from 1941 to 1945. He was a member of the North Liberty American Legion Post 365, the St. Joseph's County Sheriff's Posse and the North Liberty Church of Christ.

 

Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, April 9, in the North Liberty Church of Christ and officiated by Tim Stewart, pastor. Burial will be at Porter-Rae Cemetery in Potato Creek State Park. Military services will be conducted by American Legion Post 365. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday in the A.M. Manuel Funeral Home, North Liberty. Memorial donations may be made to the Church of Christ.
