Harold V. Bergstrand

April 10, 1921 - June 8, 2001

Harold V. Bergstrand passed away Friday, June 8, 2001 of heart failure after an illness at Healthwin Specialized Care in South Bend, Indiana where he was a resident. Harold was born April 10, 1921 in Chicago, Illinois to Lars and Lattie Bergstrand. He graduated from Von Steuben High School in Chicago, and earned a bachelor's degree in chemical engineering from the Armor Institute (now ITT) in Chicago in May 1942. Harold served in the Weather Division of the Army Corps during World War II, serving in the Pacific arena. He left the service in 1945 as a 1st Lieutenant and began a career as a chemical engineer in Chicago that year.

 

Harold married Harriet Rudnick on September 5, 1948 in Chicago. He resided in Des Plaines, Palos Heights, Woodstock, and Crystal Lake, Illinois between 1950 and 1990. He has resided in the South Bend area since 1990.

 

He is survived by a daughter, Cynthia Stephenson of El Dorado Hills, California, and a son, Jeffrey H. Bergstrand, of Granger, Indiana. He is also survived by five grandchildren: Dawn Sample and Jeffrey Sample of El Dorado Hills, California and Kirsten Bergstrand, Lauren Bergstrand, and Jason Bergstrand of Granger, Indiana.

 

Friends and family may call from 10 a.m. - 12 noon on Wednesday, June 13, 2001 at Mieszner Funeral Home, 5620 W. Irving Park Road, Chicago, IL, 60634, (773) 736-9000, followed by a service at 12 noon, and internment at Irving Park Cemetery.
