Sebastian Berner

Mar. 23, 1824 – May 15, 1905

Sebastian Berner, a well known resident of St. Joseph County since 1850, well-to-do farmer and at one time proprietor of Berner grove between the city and South Bend, died Monday morning at his county residence in Center Township, four miles southwest of Mishawaka on the Turkey Creek Road. He was 81 years old. For the last 22 years he had been an invalid. Death was due to rheumatism and dropsy. He was bron in Germany, March 23, 1824. He came to Starke County, Ind. in 1847, and to South Bend in 1850, and has lived in the county ever since.

 

On Octomer 5, 1858 he was married to Miss Eva Marsch, who survices with the following children; Samuel Berner and Mrs. George Zimmerman of Mishawaka; Joseph, Henry and Thomas of Center Township.

 

The funeral was held from St. Joseph Catholic Church in South Bend Wednesday morning at 10 o’clock, the Rev. Father Lauth officiating. Internment was in  Cedar Grove Cemetery.
