Esther Barbara Bertman, 72, of Prast Boulevard, passed away at 6:45 a.m. on Friday, Jan 2, in St. Joseph's Medical Center.

 

She was born on July 14, 1925, in South Bend, Ind., and had been a lifelong area resident. Mrs. Bertman retired after 30 years of service with Wygant Floral Company.

 

On June 2, 1945, in South Bend, as Esther Baranowski, she married John Bertman, who survives.

 

She is also survived by two sons, David J. (Lynn) Bertman of Mishawaka, Ind., and Phillip J. (Chrislin) Bertman of South Bend; three grandchildren, Eric, Aaron and Jessica Bertman; three step-grandchildren, Amy, Stacy and Angie Young; a sister, Phyllis Kromkowski of South Bend; and a brother, Walter Baranowski of South Bend.

 

She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Stephanie (Salamucha) Baranowski; and by a brother, Frank A. Baranowski.

 

Mrs. Bertman was a member of St. John The Baptist Catholic Church, the Golden Cluster and Civic Club of St. Hedwig Church, and the Daughters of Isabella, Indiana State Circle.

 

Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. on Sunday in Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, where a combined Golden Cluster and Daughters of Isabella Rosary will be said at 3:30 p.m.

 

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday in St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, with Rev. Terry Place officiating. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery. (nf)
