Richard O. Bert

Richard O. Bert, 74, of Mishawaka, Ind., passed away at 6 a.m. Friday, Feb. 1st, in the Elkhart Regional Heart Center. He was born on Sept. 12, 1927, in Mishawaka, as the son of the late Cyril and Clara (Miserez) Bert. Richard was also preceded in death by three sisters, Elsa DeCook, Romaine DeVos and Margaret Zeltinger. Richard graduated from Mishawaka High School, and remained a loyal and dedicated friend to his classmates of 1945 and the alumni.

 

On June 9, 1950, he married Virginia Carey, who preceded him in death Sept. 8, 1990. Richard then married his second wife, Edwina V. Tucker, who survives. Richard is also survived by four sons, Carey R. (Linda) Bert of Elkhart, Scott A. Bert of Osceola, Ind., Todd A. (Krista) Bert of Mishawaka and Lance E. Bert of Ypsilanti, Mich.; six grandchildren, Amy (Joseph) Calderone of Ft. Wayne, Ind., Kevin R. Bert, Lisa A. Bert and Adam C. Bert of Mishawaka, Terra L. Montgomery and April Bert of Elkhart; two great-grandchildren, Lillian M. Montgomery and Dalee L.M. Wyatt; two sisters, Irene Waldo of South Bend and Bertha August of Elkhart.

 

A loving husband, father and friend, who will be sadly missed by all and happily remembered.

Richard served in the Armed Services from 1945 to 1947. He served in the European Theatre during that time. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion Post 360.

 

Friends may visit with the family from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. today, Feb. 3rd, in the Hahn Funeral Home, 505 W. 8th Street, Mishawaka. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 4th, in the Hahn Funeral Home, with Rev. Erv Mize officiating. Graveside services will follow at Fairview Cemetery, Mishawaka. Contributions in memory of Richard may be made to the donor's choice of charity.
