Bertha I. Bickel

Bertha I Bickel, 75, Michigan City, died at 9:08 a.m. yesterday (June 17, 1990) at Memorial Hospital.

The funeral will be at the Carlisle Funeral Home at 1 p.m. Thursday. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday and until the service Thursday. Members of John Frank Miller American Legion Auxiliary will conduct a memorial service at 7 p.m. Wednesday. Members of Women of the Moose will conduct a memorial service at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday. Both will be at the funeral home.

Mrs. Bickel was born July 12, 1914 in Michigan City, the daughter of George M. and Clara (McKorkel) Cowgill. On Nov. 29, 1934 in Michigan City, she married James J. Bickel, who died Aug. 14, 1988.

Surviving are one son, James M. Bickel Jr., one daughter, Ganet Bickel, Michigan City; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; one sister, Lillian Caddy, South Bend. Two brothers, Raymond C. Sr., and Clarence Cowgill, and a sister, Rose Kindig, are deceased.

Mrs. Bickel was a teachers aide at the Therapy Center of LaPorte County. She was a member of Women of the Moose, John Franklin Miller American Legion Post Auxiliary and Women’s Relief Corps and was a member and recorder of Royal Neighbors of America.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Therapy Center.
