Gerald N. Bickel, Sr.

Feb. 11, 1934 - Nov. 17, 1998

Gerald N. Bickel, Sr., 64, of U.S. 31 South, South Bend, Ind., died at 4:20 a.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 17, in Memorial Hospital. He was born in Mishawaka, Ind., on Feb. 11, 1934, and had lived in this area all of his life.

He retired from Notre Dame in 1998, having worked in Building Services. He had served with the Air Force in the Korean Conflict and was a member of American Legion Post #161. Gerald was an avid bowler at Chippewa Lanes.

Gerald was married to Alva Redding. That marriage ended in divorce. Then on Feb. 19, 1966, in Roseland, Ind., he married Pat Miholick, who survives.

He is also survived by six sons, Gerald Bickel, Jr., Tom Bickel, Chuck Davis, Richard Davis, John Davis and Gary Bickel, all of South Bend; seven grandchildren; Kevin Paidle, Richard Davis, Melissa Davis, Matt Davis, Joey Bickel, Anthony Bickel and Nathan Bickel; two sisters, Virginia Bennett of Mishawaka and Dorothy Schadt of Chicago; and by a brother, Albert Bickel of South Bend.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Sandra Lee; a son, Little Jerry; two sisters, Betty Davis and Katherine Ramey; and by two brothers, Arthur Barrows and Clayton Barrows.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. on Thursday in Bubb Funeral Chapel North, 3910 N. Main Street, Mishawaka, where funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday with Rev. Ervin Mize officiating. Burial will follow in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola, Ind.
