James M. Bickel Sr.

The funeral for James M. Bickel Sr., 71, Michigan City will be held at Carlisle Funeral Home at 11 a.m. Friday. Mr. Bickel died at 10:06 p.m. Sunday (Aug. 14, 1988) at St. Anthony Hospital.

Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery, where a military service will be conducted, by members of American Legion Post 37.

Friend may call at the funeral home from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. tomorrow, and until the service Friday. Members of American Legion John Franklin Miller Post 37 will conduct a memorial service at 7:30 p.m. tomorrow at the funeral home. Members of Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks 432 will conduct a memorial service at 8 p.m. tomorrow, also at the funeral home.

Mr. Bickel was born Oct. 29, 1916, in South Bend, the son of Joseph and Flossie (Marbeiter) Bickel, On Nov. 29, 1934 in Michigan City, he married Bertha Cowgill, who survives.

Also surviving are a son, James Bickel Jr., Michigan City; a daughter, Ganet Bickel, Michigan City; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two sisters, Dorothy Ford and Lilas Corbett, both of Michigan City; and two brothers, Robert and William Bickel, both of Michigan City.

Mr. Bickel was a truck driver for Tucker Freight Lines. He was a US Navy veteran of World War II and a member of Teamsters Union Local 298, Moose Lodge 980, John Franklin Miller Post 37. Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks 432 and Royal Neighbors Camp 3550.
