GEORGE C. BIEBUYCK

July 14, 1915 – April 28, 2005

 

George C. Biebuyck, 89, of Healthwin Specialized Care Facility, South Bend IN, passes away on Thursday, April 28, 2005, Healthwin.

 

George was born on July 14, 1915, in South Bend, to the late Frank and Alice (Bollaert) Biebuyck.  He graduated from South Bend Central High School, with honors, in 1933.  On June 15, 1940, in Our Lady of Hungary Catholic Church, he married M. Katherine Horvath, who survives.

 

Along with his wife of 64 years, he is survived by his daughters, Patricia (Michael) Austin of Concord MA, Elaine (Dennis) Fountain of South Bend, Suzanne (Joe) Werfelman of Mount Pocono PA, Joyce Longo of Grant, MI, Cynthia (Jeff) Wagoner and Deborah (Rodney) Green, both of South Bend; 11 grandchildren, Glenn Austin, Cheryl Akusis, Melissa Austin, David Fountain, Stephen Fountain, Alisa Brown, Gina Moll, Camille Bugdon, Richard Murphy, Abigail Green and William Green; and by eight great-grandchildren, with a ninth due in June.  Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Mary Van De Wielle and Irma Jankowiak and by two brothers, Frank and Valaire Biebuyck.

 

George worked for O’Brien Paint Company for 43 years, before retiring in 1980.

 

He is a parishioner of Corpus Christi Catholic Church, South Bend, where he has served as an usher for 30 years, he also was an usher at Sacred Heart Parish, a member of Chain-O-Lakes Conservation Club, Notre Dame usher at least 25 years, the Volkskring Club and Civilian Conservation Corp in the 1930s.  He loved gardening, and was a born athlete, who taught his six daughters to swim.  George and his wife loved to dance.  He enjoyed reading and was very fond of history.  He was proud of his Belgian Heritage, but he was most proud of his daughters and their families.  George and Katherine would have celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary on June 15, 2005.

 

Visitation for George will be from 4 to 7pm Sunday, May 1st, in the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, South Bend, where a parish rosary will be recited at 4:30pm.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10am Monday, May 2, 2005, in Corpus Christi Church, with burial to follow at Highland Cemetery, South Bend,
