SOUTH BEND - Services for John Henry Bivens, 89, of 306 S. Chapin St., who died at 4 p.m. Friday in St. Joseph's Medical Center of an illness, will be at 1 p.m. Thursday in St. Paul Bethel Baptist Church. Burial will be in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola. Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday in Alford's Mortuary.

Mr. Bivens retired from Drewrys. He was born Jan. 18, 1905, in Meridian, Miss. Surviving are two daughters, Hattie Mae Rogers of Chicago and Opal Dokins of South Bend; a son, Johnny Ray of South Bend; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. A daughter, Willa Mae Armant, and a son, Jessie Lee, preceded him in death. He was a member of the church.
