SOUTH BEND - Rev. Denis Blank, 71, pastor of Corpus Christi Catholic Church, died at 12:55 a.m. today in Memorial Hospital. He had been a priest in the Diocese of Fort Wayne-South Bend since 1960. He served since 1977 as pastor of Corpus Christi, where he supervised construction of a new church that was dedicated in 1985. He was also a chaplain at Memorial Hospital. He was born July 18, 1916 if Batesville, Ind. and had lived in northern Indiana since 1960. He is survived by two sisters, Rose Mary Young of Indianapolis, and Mary Wolf of Madison, Ind.

 

Services will be at 11 a.m. in Corpus Christi Catholic Church and burial will be in Batesville. Friends may call from 2 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the church, where a parish rosary will be said at 7 p.m. Memorial contributions made be made to the  church.

 

Rev. Blank was ordained Feb. 24, 1943 at Holy Family Church, Oldenburg, Ind. In 1960 he was appointed associate pastor of Queen of Angels Church, Fort Wayne; in 1964 associate pastor of St. Mary’s Church, Decatur; in 1967 associate pastor of St. Patrick’s Church, Fort Wayne; in 1969 associate pastor of St. Monica’s in Mishawaka; in 1970 he served at St. John Bosco, Churubusco, and was pastor if Immaculate Conception Church, Ege, Ind. He served at St. Anthony de Pauda, South Bend prior to being appointed to Corpus Christi in 1976. He was chaplain for Padre Pro prayer group and was a former chaplain for Knights of Columbus Santa Maria council 553. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Father Nieuwland Assembly.
