Sister Marie Rosaire CSC, 60, a member of the art department of St. Mary’s College for 34 years and a former chairman of the department, died at 12:50 p.m. Saturday in St. Joseph Hospital after a brief illness. Born Eleanor Mary Batterman on May 19, 1906, in St. Louis, Mo. She attended St. Roch’s School there and graduated from Visitation Academy. She earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from St. Mary’s College in 1928, entered the Congregation of the Sisters of the Holy Cross a year later and made her final profession of vows in 1934. She joined the St. Mary’s faculty in 1933. She received a Master’s Degree from Pius XII Institute in Florence, Italy, and did graduate work in Chicago, Cleveland and the University of Notre Dame.

 

Friends may call in the St. Mary’s Convent parlor until noon today, then in LaMans Hall on the St. Mary’s campus from 12:30 until 9 p.m.. The requiem mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday in the Church of Our Lady of Loretto at St. Mary’s. Burial will be in Our Lady of Peace Cemetery, on the campus.
