SOUTH BEND - Services for Maj. Thomas J. Block, 46, of Carlsbad, Calif., formerly of South Bend, who died Friday in Carlsbad after an illness, will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in St. Matthew Cathedral. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. Tuesday in Guisinger Colonial Chapel Funeral Home.

Maj. Block retired in 1993 from the Marine Corps after 24 years of service as a pilot. He was born June 4, 1948, in Bloomington, Ind. He is survived by a daughter, Sarah Block of Fall City, Wash.; his parents, Marie and Jack Block of South Bend; two sisters, Janis Block of South Bend and Melinda Rasmussen of Alfreda, Ga.; and two brothers, Donald J. of Mishawaka and Douglas of South Bend.
