John J. Bloom Sr.

John J. Bloom Sr., 89, of Berkley Circle, Mishawaka, Ind., passed away in the Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center, South Bend, Ind., on Monday, Nov. 26. John was born on Nov. 21, 1912, in Detroit, Mich., as the son of the late Leo F. and Polly (Novak) Bloom. He was also preceded in death by two sisters, Agnes Bloom and Mary Hertel.

 

On May 12, 1934, in South Bend, John married the former Frances Mahoney. John is survived by his wife of 68 years, Frances; two sons, Thomas (Patricia) Bloom of South Bend and John (Patricia) Bloom Jr. of Tucson, Ariz.; two sisters, Pearl Barnes of Mishawaka and Clara Miller of Detroit; two brothers, Mitchell Bloom and Leo Bloom, both of South Bend. John is also survived by eight grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

 

Mr. Bloom worked for the Studebaker Corporation for 34 years. After their closing he was employed at AM General as a quality control supervisor for 14 years, retiring in 1977. John was a member of The Cathedral of St. Matthew where he was a member of the ushers society.

 

Friends may call from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 28th, in the Hahn Funeral Home, 505 W 8th Street, Mishawaka. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 29th, in The Cathedral of St. Matthew, South Bend, with Bishop Daniel R. Jenky, C.S.C., officiating. Burial will follow at Southlawn Cemetery, South Bend.
