MUNCIE - Donald R. Blumberg, 79, of Muncie, IN, formerly from the South Bend, Mishawaka area, passed away on Saturday, February 27, 2010, after fighting a courageous battle with cancer at the Morrison Woods Health Campus in Muncie, IN. Donald was born on January 24, 1931, in South Bend, to the late Thaddeus and Sarah Blumberg. Donald is survived by his three daughters, Beth (Brian) Kennedy of Anderson, IN, Andrea Clark of Chicago, IL, and Jill (Mark) Swain of Columbus, IN. Donald was a loving and caring grandfather to four grandchildren, Kristina, Victoria Kennedy of Anderson, IN, Jackson and Luke Swain of Columbus, IN. His wife, Maryell, who passed away on February 7, 1991, preceded Donald in death. Donald received an honorable discharge from the United States Marine Corps after serving his country during the Korean War Conflict. Donald retired from Nipsco Utilities as a management supervisor after 40 years of service in 1991. Donald enjoyed playing golf, reading and traveling. Donald's major enjoyment was his family who he loved and cherished most of all. Donald was a member of the Saint Pius X Catholic Church in Granger. The family will receive friends on Thursday, March 4th, from 4-8 p.m. with the Rosary to be recited at 4:00 p.m. by Monsignor William Schooler at the Bubb Funeral Chapel, 3910 N. Main St., Mishawaka. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, March 5th, with one hour visitation prior in Saint Pius X Catholic Church, 52553 Fir Road, Granger, with Monsignor William Schooler officiating. Entombment is to follow the service at St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park in Granger.
