SOUTH BEND - Earl Dean Bly, 76, of South Bend, IN, died on Monday, April 21, 2008, in his home following an illness. He was born on August 9, 1931, to the late Edward I. and Earldine C. (Vick) Bly in Oak Park, IL, and had lived in South Bend since he was seven years old.

On April 11, 1953, he married C. Maxine "Mickey" Bognar in Christ the King Catholic Church, South Bend, IN. He is survived by his wife, C. Maxine "Mickey" Bly of South Bend, IN; one daughter, Mary Ann (James) Venable of Reno, NV; one son, Brian Edward (Shannon) Bly of Sarasota, FL; three grandchildren, Christine (Jesus) Morales and Joshua Brody, both of Colorado Springs, CO, and David McGill of Sarasota, FL; and four great-grandchildren, Orion Brody, Malecai Morales, Keira Brody and Naomi Morales, all of Colorado Springs, CO; two cousins, Francis Dean "Butch" (Dianna) Smith of Bremen, IN, and Cheryl Vanderschoor of LaGrange, IN. Mr. Bly was an active member of Little Flower Parish for more than 40 years.

Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 PM today, April 24, 2008, and from 9 to 10 AM Friday, April 25, both at Little Flower Catholic Church, 54191 N. Ironwood Road, South Bend, IN. A parish vigil service will be held at 7:30 PM today in the church. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 AM Friday, April 25, in Little Flower Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Highland Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Little Flower Catholic Church, 54191 N. Ironwood Road, South Bend, IN 46635; to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105; or to The Center for Hospice and Palliative Care, Inc., 111 Sunnybrook Court, South Bend, IN 46637. The Kaniewski Funeral Home, South Bend, is handling arrangements.
