Zelda Boatman

Aug. 28, 1912 - April 23, 1997

Zelda Boatman, 84, of 1101 Ohio Street, Walkerton, Ind., passed away on Wednesday, April 23, in Elkhart General Hospital, Elkhart, Ind. Mrs. Boatman was a former employee of the Kingsbury Ordnance Plant, and retired from Plas-Steel where she was a saw operator.

Zelda was born Aug. 28, 1912, in Garrett, Ill., to Tillie (Persinger) and George Sly, who both preceded her in death. On July 6, 1929, in Olney, Ill., Zelda married George L. Boatman. Coming to this area in the early 1940s, they lived here together until George preceded her in death on Aug. 20, 1971. She was also preceded in death by a brother, two grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Zelda and George were the parents of three daughters, Nancy (LeVoy) Landesman, and Delores (Bob) Farrar, both of Walkerton, and Joyce (Hatcher) Gibson of Edwardsburg, Mich.; nine grandchildren, Lynne (Gary) LaFollette, Patrick (Pam) Landesman, Vicky Ellsworth, Raymond Ellsworth, Lonnie (Rose) Gibson, Joy Lynn Gibson, Susan (Greg) Fraize, Sheri (Tom) Hesters and Patti (Alex) Hunter; 11 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; and by a brother, Oral Sly of Highland, Ill.

Zelda was a member of the First Baptist Church in Walkerton.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today in the Nusbaum-Elkin Funeral Home in Walkerton.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday in the First Baptist Church in Walkerton, where friends may call one hour prior to services. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Walkerton.

The family requests that memorial contributions be made to the First Baptist Church or to the Diabetes Association.
