MISHAWAKA - Irene D. Boehnlein, 81, of Mishawaka, passed away after an illness on Thursday, June 21, in Hospice House, South Bend. Irene was born on November 16, 1925, in Mishawaka, as the daughter of Felix and Cyrilla Deschamphelaere. She was preceded in death by her parents, and by a brother, Alphons Deschamphelaere.

On May 17, 1947, as the former Irene Deschamphelaere, she married Martin Boehnlein. Surviving are her loving husband of 60 years, Martin; a daughter, Simone Arias of San Diego, CA; a son, Christopher Boehnlein of Mishawaka; a grandchild, Felicia Arias of San Luis Obispo, CA; and a sister, Mary Lou Van Vooren of Mishawaka. Irene worked for a while in retail at Sears. She was a loving wife and mother who enjoyed spending time with her family and in her garden. She was a member of St. Bavo Catholic Church, Mishawaka.

Visitation will be from 2 to 6 p.m. on Sunday, June 24, with wake prayers at 5:00 p.m. in the Hahn Funeral Home, 505 W. 8th Street, Mishawaka. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, June 25, in St. Bavo Catholic Church, with Rev. Barry England officiating. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery, Mishawaka. The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to The Center for Hospice and Palliative Care, 111 Sunnybrook Court, South Bend, IN 46637.
