Everine Bolden

Everine (Manning) Bolden, 68, of South Bend, Ind., passed away after a brief illness at 1:50 a.m. on Thursday, March 29, in Saint Joseph Medical Center. She was born on Aug. 31, 1932, in Marianna, Ark., to Charlie and Rettea (Simpson) Manning.

 

She married Alfred Bolden Sr. on May 11, 1952, in Marianna, and moved to South Bend on Oct. 19, 1952. She graduated from Lakeview High School, Lakeview, Ark. She was a homemaker. She confessed her faith in Christ in 1945 at Pilgrim Baptist Church, Marianna, under the leadership of the late Reverend J. H. Hankley. She was a charter member and organizer of Saint Paul Bethel Baptist Church in 1954, and was still an active member at the time of her death.She was a faithful member of SPB Sunday Church School Women Class #1 (secretary), Wednesday Noon Day Bible Study, Baptist Training Union and the Deaconess Board.

 

She was preceded in death by her parents, Charlie and Rettea Manning; four brothers, Louie White, Wilber White, Willie Thomas Manning and Maxie D. Manning; a daughter, Ann Bolden; and a very dear family member, Debra Manning. She is survived by her husband, Alfred Bolden Sr.; two daughters, Wilma Smith of Detroit, Mich., and Verna (Abrah) Fenney of Little Rock, Ark.; two sons, Alfred Jr. and Eddie, both of Detroit; four grandchildren, Christopher Bolden of Little Rock, Ashley Smith of Detroit, Gladys Scales and Jasmine Bolden, both of Indianapolis, Ind.; two very dear family members, Beatrice (Van) Cummings of South Bend and Kathleen Manning of Chicago, Ill.; her father-in-law, Jefferson Bolden of Marianna; an aunt, Maggie Henry of Marianna; a sister-in-law, Lillie Mae Edmondson; two godchildren, Ricky and Dinina Kenny, both of South Bend; a very special friend, Eloise Bingham of South Bend; five brothers-in-law and 11 sisters-in-law; and a number of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.

 

Services for Mrs. Everine Bolden will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, April 2, in St. Paul Bethel Baptist Church, 621 Lindsey Street, South Bend, where friends may call one hour before services. The Rev. Gilbert Washington will officiate services. Burial will follow at Highland Cemetery. The Clark-O'Neal Funeral Home has been entrusted with services.
