SOUTH BEND - V. Pauline Books, 92, of St. Paul's Retirement Community, formerly of Mishawaka, died at 3:15 a.m. Saturday in St. Paul's. Mrs. Books was a retired grade school teacher and had served in the Bremen, Mishawaka and Michigan City school systems. She was born June 5, 1902, in Corydon, Ind., moving to Mishawaka in 1932 from Bremen. On Jan. 30, 1926, in Bremen, as Pauline Pittman, she married Harold O. Books. He died May 13, 1965. Surviving are a daughter, Ruth M. Schlegel of Anniston, Ala.; two sons, Charles E. of Mishawaka and Thomas R. of Flat Rock, N.C.; eight grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren; and a brother, Cleo Pittman of Minneola, Kan. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Mishawaka, where she was a deacon and trustee; Mishawaka Women's Club; Mishawaka Garden Club; PEO Chapter N; and Thalia Chapter N sorority.
Services will be at a later date. There will be no visitation. Hahn Funeral Home, Mishawaka, is in charge of arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to the church.
