Sister Marilyn (Helen Elizabeth Boomer), CSC, 85, died on Sunday, Oct. 29, in Saint Mary's Convent, Notre Dame, Ind. Sister Marilyn was born in Great Falls, Mont., on May 23, 1915, a daughter of Holland B. and Loretta J. Kelly Boomer. Sister is survived by her sisters, Winifred Coley of Fresno, Calif., and Mary Wind of Hawaii; a brother-in-law, John C. McIntyre of Santa Barbara, Calif.; niece, Laura Ann Haney of Fresno, Calif.; and by other nieces and nephews.

 

Sister Marilyn entered the Congregation of the Sisters of the Holy Cross in 1934, and made her first vows in 1937. Sister began her teaching career in 1937 at St. Bernard's School, Oakland, then to Holy Rosary Academy, Woodland, Calif. She moved to St. Joseph's School in Pocatello, Idaho, in 1939, and remained there until 1943, when she was assigned to Saint Ann's Orphanage in Salt Lake City, Utah. Sister returned to California at St. Paul's School, Los Angeles, Calif., Our Lady of Lourdes School, Colusa, St. Agnes School, L.A., Holy Rosary, Woodland, and again at St. Agnes School, L.A.

 

Sister then moved into teaching in Junior High in 1958 at St. Joseph's School, Boise, Idaho, St. Anne's School, Las Vegas, Nev., St. Joseph's School, Pocatello, Santa Cruz School and St. Cyril's School, Tucson, Ariz., Immaculate Conception School, Sacramento, and St. Joseph's School, Mountain View, both in California. Sister's last teaching assignment was at Saint Matthew's School, Seattle, Wash., 1968, ending 31 years of teaching. In Fresno, Calif., 1968, sister was a parish visitor. She moved, 1969, to Saint Catherine by the Sea, Ventura, Calif., where she did volunteer service to the community, was a driver for the convent, and was active in the ministry of prayer. Sister come to Saint Mary's Convent in 1999, lived for a time at Basil Moreau Convent, and returned to Saint Mary's Convent and was active in the ministry of prayer until her death.

 

Wake service will be held at the Church of Our Lady of Loretto, Saint Mary's, Notre Dame, at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 1. Funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 2, in the Church of Our Lady of Loretto, Saint Mary's, followed by interment at Our Lady of Peace Cemetery, Saint Mary's, Notre Dame. Memorial contributions may be made to the Sisters of the Holy Cross Ministry with the Poor Fund, Saint Mary's, Notre Dame, IN 46556. The Kaniewski Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
