Clem "Sonny" Borkowski, 62, of South Bend, passed away unexpectedly in his sleep on Monday, January 16, 2006. Clem was born on December 12, 1943, in South Bend, to Clem and Ella (Horvath) Borkowski Sr., both of whom have preceded him in death.

On January 9, 1965, he married Judith Singleton. She survives along with daughter, Beth Borkowski of South Bend; son, Clement Michael (Stacey) Borkowski of Colorado; grandchildren, Benjamin Borkowski, Maddison Borek and Zoey Borkowski; sisters, Mary Ann (Don) Gosa of South Bend and Joyce (Wayne Vida) Ullery; and niece and nephews, Robert (Lori) of South Bend, Debra Johnson of South Bend, Thomas Ullery of South Bend, Stephen (Delores Grummell) Ullery of South Bend, Douglas Merrill of Florida and Bonnie Merrill. Clem retired from Slatile Roofing and Restoration after working more than 40 years in the roofing industry. He was a proud member of Roofer Union Local 26. He enjoyed camping and fishing but loved most of all being surrounded every afternoon by "all the guys" in his garage.

A celebration of life will be on Friday, January 20, 2006, at 1 p.m. in ST. JOSEPH FUNERAL HOME, 824 S. Mayflower Road, South Bend. The family has requested that anyone with pictures of Clem to please bring them to the funeral home at the time of the services to share with the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Center for Hospice and Palliative Care of St. Joseph County or to the charity of choice.
